    Great buy!!

    Very good quality great price

Issues with Locking Nut – Otherwise great grinder so far.

I’ve had this grinder for quite awhile now and have consistent issues with the grind setting nut falling off. Fortunately the threaded hole is threw the whole nut and using an M6 screw from your local hardware store you can lock it in place, once you get the grind setting you want.

I didn’t know manual coffee grinders could be so nice

We’ve gone through two JavaPress grinders in the last five years and where amazed by the quality of the West Coast Chef grinder. It feels very solid and high class and it grinds a serving of coffee in less than a minute! I use this grinder every day and am constantly amazed at how fast it works. I think it took at least 5 minutes with my previous coffee grinder.I would rate this as absolutely worth the extra money.

  4. SS

    Excellent all around.

Excellent for getting the exact grind you want. I love that it’s portable, doesn’t need power, and can store both beans and ground coffee so you can get two brews without bringing along extra beans. It looks great in my kitchen too.

Grinds well, but setting it right is confusing

Setting up the grinder the first time you use it is a bit confusing. You have to set the grind size before screwing together the two chambers, but when you twist the setting, it doesn’t look like it’s changing at all, and markings for the grind size are completely meaningless. I followed the guide and finally got it to work, but I was originally so certain the grinder came busted.I read other reviews who said they were lost as far as setting the grind size. I’m pretty sure I received a returned grinder because the box it came in had grease marks on it (see my pics). I almost returned it for that reason, but ended up keeping the grinder since I figure out how to use it properly. The grinder does grind fine for espresso and evenly enough for pour over (see my coffee grounds pic – the grounds are a bit coarser than I use for pour over). The grinder has good build to it. It’s solid metal and the handle rotates smoothly, though it sometimes squeaks. Overall it’s a decent enough hand grinder.

    Impeccable Quality

This is a super well built grinder, really great

    Decent hand burr grinding

I like this a lot better than the last burr style grinder I tried. The quality and craftsmanship of this one is pretty good- the materials seem strong and durable, it has a polished feel in the hand, and even comes with extras like a cleaning brush. Definitely a big step over the cheapo grinders. The instructions are kind of basic and bordering on useless, however. You can adjust the size of the grind (fine for pour overs, coarse for press, etc), but it is difficult if not impossible to tell what you set it to. You need to use trial-and-error to find the size you actually want, and even then sometimes I’m not sure if I’m holding the right part while I grind. The first or second time I used it, the crank actually untwisted the grinder inside because I must have been holding the wrong part and accidentally twisted it off. I had to reassemble it which tool a while, thanks to the instructions not showing how the parts fit together in case an accident like this at all!But if you’re familiar with how these are supposed to work already and you don’t make the mistakes I did, I think it’s a pretty decent option.

    My new favorite Grinder!

The consistency of this grinder is so much better than my previous hand grinder I was using AND it is so much quicker!

    Quality you can feel

This was exactly what I was looking for in a manual espresso grinder. The operation was smooth and consistent and hold enough beans for a double shot. The build quality is immediately felt from the first look and use. This would be a welcome addition to any home kitchen or professional brew house. I would take this with me in a Last Man on Earth situation or during the Armageddon. 10/10 can’t recommend this enough.

    makes a beautiful grind

Grind effort is easy. Stainless steel grind mechanism makes consistent grind size at all levels, from fine to coarse. Grinder has a good solid feel in hand, maybe a little heavy weight for traveling if carrying in backpack. The grind adjustment knob turns smoothly (there is no click sensation). The complaint I have is in setting the grind level. There is 12 engraved digits numbers for the adjustment knob, the numbers are little difficult to see in low light. The start point is found by turning knob completely clockwise to where it no longer turns. The issue I have is the starting point on my grinder lands on #7. Suggested grind levels range from 3-28 digits. For example if I want a grind level of 21 for French Press, it requires me to do some math: Start #7, preform 2 complete counter clockwise rotations, to land back on #7, then back off 3 digits to #4. If I want a grind level of 12: Start on #7, preform 1 complete rotation to land on #7, + 9 more digits, to land on #4. See what I mean! not an issue if you use the same grind level but if you want to change your grind level (especially first thing in the morning low light) it requires some concentration (and maybe some extra light) !I did contact the seller to see if there was a way to make an adjustment so that the starting point lands on #1. They responded quickly and they assured me not a problem with the grinder and explained the grind level setting process.I my opinion a design flaw, that said this grinder does a beautiful job of grinding.

Best manual grinder I’ve ever used!

After using a series of what I now realize to be low-to-medium quality manual grinders, I finally understand what a high-quality grinder brings to the table (no pun intended).First, the packaging. It comes in an elegant box with a magnetic, folder-over clasp. The inside of the box has high-quality foam cutouts that fit every part of the grinder perfectly, including the handle. The packaging is so nice, in fact, that I intend to use it for permanent storage of the grinder at the small-but-growing coffee station I have in my kitchen. Yes, it’s that nice. The manufacturing quality of the grinder is phenomenal! It’s crafted with precision, sturdy, and the form-factor is extraordinarily comfortable in my hands. The reservoir where the grinds drop screws onto the body of the grinder with near-perfect tolerances (no wobbling or loose-fitting connections). Unlike my other grinders, which can require a small battle to keep the reservoir in place while grinding, there is no way this reservoir is coming off of the grinder unless you purposefully remove it. And, the flat-black metal finish is also just plain beautiful to look at.The coarseness setting allows you to dial in coarseness/fineness to a precision you likely haven’t seen before. I’ll admit here that it took me a few minutes to get the hang of it because the “1” on the dial (the lowest setting) is really just a relative reference point, not an absolute setting. After a few minutes of spinning the dial, I understood why, however, and it makes sense; you can spin the dial much farther than 360-degrees, which is why the instruction manual talks about moving the dial a certain number of “digits” and not to a specific number. With about 3 attempts, I was able to dial in the perfect coarseness for my particular espresso/cappuccino maker. And, I should say, I’m a complete newbie at this (I’ve owned a cappuccino maker for all of 5 days), so that’s saying something. The grinder also sports a metal handle with an elegant wooden knob that spins easily while grinding without coming disconnected. It comes packaged with an elegant brush for cleaning, and the instructions are explicit about not washing the grinder with water, so you’ll be getting a lot of use out of it. The bristles almost feel like a high-quality horsehair shoe-polishing brush, though I don’t honestly know what material they’re made out of. I can tell you that it’s the perfect size to clean everything and it makes the job quick and easy.I know I’m using the word “elegant” a lot, and it’s not by mistake. It’s the perfect word to describe what you find in the box. If there’s a prettier, better manual grinder out there, I haven’t found it.

    Amazing

    Worth the money

  14. Pat

    Great value for the money

This is a grinder made out of high quality components. I am able to grind with consistent quality. However, there are three issues:- The manual is not very helpful. Fortunately, the many reviews here helped.- The grinder has two places that can unscrew: the coffee compartment at the bottom and the section above the grip hold. I am still not sure why the top part unscrews, but noticed that this changes the grind settings. I am now trying to make sure to not let the top part unscrew, but it still happens every now and then.- The manual says not to wash the grinder with water. So how am i supposed to get rid of the coffee oils?

    Pretty good. Knob needs work.

Seems well made. Solid. Heavy. Pretty smooth. Has sealed ball bearings. Crank stays on body well. One small problem. On use number 10, the wooden knob came off. Looks like there was little to no glue holding it together. Easy fix but deducting a star for having to do so. Otherwise works well. We’ll see how it holds up long term. For the price, if it lasts a couple years then it will have paid for itself.

    Must have coffee lovers tool

Received this today and straight away wanted to use it. It comes in a lovely box, well packaged. Got it out and straight away it felt well made and sturdy. Have tried 2 different grinds – medium for my V60 drip and a rougher grind for my cafetière. Both ground very well and it was easy to adjust the grind as required. Also grinding the handle is pretty easy due to the well made burrs. All in all I am very impressed on day one, here’s hoping for many happy brews to come.‘Avatar’ all the way…

This is a gift. I am guessing this good one.

  19. A B

    Great but with some quirks

It is great to use once you get the hang of it, but when I first used it I accidentally changed the grind settings by turning the top part of the grinder while holding the circular grip ring in the middle. As someone else pointed out, turns out that will change the grind setting as well, so there are two places that can cause grind level to change. This is probably a design flaw, but as long as you only grip the middle grip ring while grinding it is fine and works well for the price.

  20. ChrisT

    Excellent build quality.

I must say this is a very good quality hand grinder. It is quite heavy which means the build quality is topnotch. I think the quality is comparable to a Timemore C2 grinder but way much cheaper. I’m glad the shaft top end is hexagonal in shape which means I can use my power screwdriver to drive this grinder. Highly recommend.

    Fantastic first conical burr grinder

I recently decided I wanted to drink good quality espresso at home, but I had absolutely no idea that the electronic equipment required to do this would cost me hundreds of pounds….Deciding to go down the manual route in an effort to be cost effective, I purchased this grinder. This was a safe median price-point (I paid £58), I didn’t much like the look of the ~£20/£30 grinders with the push on collection cups, and flat handles that always seem to be bent before you’ve even purchased them.I was immediately impressed on arrival, the grinder has a satisfying heft, it isn’t light, and feels sufficiently sturdy to boot. The wooden knob is a nice touch, and gives the grinder a relatively premium feel. The whole thing is painted/coated throughout, meaning no metal on metal contact anywhere, which is great, and the collecting cup screws on nice and tight. It also doubles nicely as a dosing cup straight into my portafilter which is again nice and convenient. My experience with it so far is it produces consistent grinds (to my untrained eye, at least) with the setting I have it on, and I can also confirm that it seems to be holding the same setting, and it doesn’t drift at all. I have only dialled it in for my particular espresso bean, and have yet to try any coarse grinds, but with what I am currently seeing for my fine espresso grind I would imagine it will handle it with ease. The supplied cleaning brush is appreciated, and this does a reasonable job of clearing out the leftover grinds and chaff that don’t make it through the burr set.All in all, if you are looking for a decent grinder which doesn’t cost the earth, and is going to provide you with evenly ground coffee, this is a fantastic choice.

  22. intelligent astroid

Don’t waste money on a lesser version

Will made out of good metal. No plastic trash involved. Downsides are that it isn’t all that adjustable, so better for fine grind. Doesn’t seal on top so bits of coffee might make a break for freedom as you grind. Still far superior to cheaper models.

  23. skunther

Good grinder, but there’s play in burr after ~10 mos light use

The media could not be loaded.

Been a great grinder, but there’s some shifting/play in the burr and shaft after 9 to 10 months of home use. I noticed some play earlier on but didn’t investigate until now, so not sure exactly when it manifested. I use it about 1 out of 5 days. The play definitely diminishes the consistency of the grind.Would be nice if there were a way to stabilize the drive shaft and eliminate the play. Perhaps replacement bearings? There doesn’t seem to be a way to contact the seller about this though. Would be 5 stars without the play.

    Absolutely Fantastic Grinder!

Truly amazing and extremely well built grinder. So solid and easy to use. So glad I purchased this one after reading many reviews of other grinders.Grinder has perfect weight to it, love the aluminum alloy body and stainless steel burr. Handle makes it so easy to grind and comes with cleaning brush!Only issue I had was the adjustment guide vs. the adjustment knob but after playing with it and many grinding tests later, just below the 9 (see picture) is where I found the best grind for my Keurig refillable KCup.Also found a fantastic refillable Kcup that I highly recommend as well!https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089VSYR3T?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This little grinder exceeded my expectations. It was easy to use and well built, not to mention way more stylish in person than I thought it would be.

Great quality grind, but static buildup may be a little irritating

This is a solid grinder that feels sturdy and tough. It grinds evenly and reliably with no setting slip. It’s now part of my “at work” espresso station and I love it.That being said I have two minor irritations that may or may not impact your decision to buy it. They don’t affect me much but I can see how they would irritate others.1. The markings on the grind settings are completely arbitrary and therefore useless. When you tighten MINE all the way down to what should be a zero, it’s sitting at a 9. So, don’t count on recording settings for different beans and roasts. You’ll want to dial it in for each batch (which isn’t a bad idea anyway).2. The grinder and collection cup on this builds static and therefore collects grinds like crazy. You can see what’s left after grinding for an espresso and tapping out what I could in the photo. This being said, they include a decent brush with it for cleaning it up, so that’s a plus.Again, these aren’t enough to make me pay for a “higher quality” grinder. This one has done a great job so far.

  29. Andrea Repaci

    Strumento troppo fragile

Peccato.

    Burr is best

I have been using this grinder a few days now and I am very happy with the consistency of the grind and ease of use. I did have an issue with my first grinder but that was dealt with very professionally and promptly by Justin. That aside it is a bit on the pricey side, but I am sure as the build quality is very good the longevity of it will offset the cost. All in all I am very happy and would recommend this grinder.

Best personal burr grinder I’ve found!

I live and work remotely from a small RV (2021 Northern Lite 8-11EX LE) while my spouse and I explore the U.S. National Park system. I wanted to be able to custom grind high-end coffee beans I purchase around the country … I could not have selected a more perfect, easy-to-use, and compact device in the West Coast Chef Manual Burr Coffee Grinder. Its quality of manufacture, ease of use (I have arthritis that limits my grip strength), and its performance are about as outstanding as one could desire. I look forward to using it for many, many years to come! BTW, it makes the PERFECT cup of coffee, whether it be pour over, drip, or Aeropress!

  32. Amazon Customer

    Keep track of grinder dial

This seems to be a very nice product. However, I must have had the dial grinder set wrong and it fell into the ground coffee. Didn’t see it as I scooped it out into filter . Joyfully, I found it a day later after going thru garbage in a paper filter amongst the grounds. Thanked God that i found it, sterilized it, and learned a valuable lesson.

    Top Quality – Expensive

You get what you pay for. This is not a cheap grinder, but the quality is superb! Great for when power is out or when camping or for cases when you prefer manual tools.

    Good Quality Hand Grinder

Nice and easy to grind up some coffee beans for a single serving or two!

  35. Walter J.R. Cox

Great grinder specs, however let down where it matters

On further inspection, this really isn’t that good of a grinder! It’s got a really good burr set, for the money it’s brilliant, and the central shaft is bearing-mounted, so it stays centered, and doesn’t play. The issue, however, is that the bottom burr set is of a loose tolerance to that central shaft, so despite the shaft being nice and square, the burrs are still off-centre and loosely held, resulting in an inconsistent grind. To fix that, I stuck a piece of aluminium drinks can in there as a shim – it’s now a nice fit, and grinds something more consistently, although changing grind size is now more tricky. As other folks have said, this also won’t keep a grind size without intervention, to the tune of sticking an M6 (standard 19”rack size) bolt into the other end of the grind adjustment to stop it wandering. So, if you’re OK with hacking a bit of tin can in there, and putting a rack bolt in the other end, this will grind a decent grind. Otherwise, I can’t really reccomend you spending forty quid on an inconsistent grinder.

    Do not waste your time

The only good thing about this purchase was that it arrived early. I had paid full price for a new grinder however, I had received a used grinder where the grinder settings do not work. All the bean sizes are the exact same from settings fine to coarse. The box arrived ripped there were coffee grounds all over the brush and inside the barrel. For this price you can find a way better product.

Great quality and very competitive price

I’m a coffee enthusiast and I did a thorough research about manual grinders before I got this one. This model is not very common, at least in the UK but I found it extremely well made, beautifully designed with black anodised aluminium finish and wooden handle (hate those plastic ones). The burrs are stainless steel and can really grind coffee to an espresso level although I use mine for aeropress and moka stow primerly. The quality of this grinder is really good and what was important for me, it doesn’t cost nearly as much as some of its more famous competitors.

  39. Sierra Brashear

It gave me great joy, until it broke!

I adore using this hand grinder because of its size, shape and the perfect fine grind that it makes! The sturdy material is really satisfying to hold. I truly get so much joy out of my coffee ritual because of this sweet little grinder — however, sadly the lever for grinding just snapped off at the base! I was horrified because I love it so much. I am contacting West Coast Chef now, and hopefully they will replace it — as I purchased this just 11 months ago and it feels like it should last much longer. Also, be sure to extend your warranty by writing an Amazon review! 🙂

  40. A. Loesch

Really consistent grind, but not fine enough for turkish or espresso

It’s a really nice travel grinder. The mechanical advantage it provides makes much faster work of grinding than my previous cheaper grinder with a ceramic burr. Feels very solid and all tolerances feel very tight. Best travel grinder I have ever owned.Don’t expect it to provide the fineness levels required for proper espresso or turkish coffee though. For pour-over, or aeropress levels of fineness I’m sure it would work great. I typically use a french press and for that it is amazing.

Really easy to use, straight forward instructions. Looks good on your kitchen counter.

    Fabulous!

My husband bought this for me as a Christmas gift and it is so amazing! Not only is this a great way to make coffee in a French press, it has made making coffee in the morning a delightful ritual. (And it grinds just the right amount for a French press)I bought another one for my office and another for my best friend’s birthday present, with a French press, a special coffee mug and 2 pounds of coffee beans.

  47. James R.

    Sturdy and easy to use.

Arrived quickly. Sturdy (I’m 6’4″, 250lbs and tend to break stuff. I’ve used this grinder A LOT since it arrived and not a scratch, wobble or missed step thus far). The “fine” settings are really fine. Does everything it should. Fantastic.

    Pricey, But Well Worth It

I researched grinders for some time because I only wanted to do this once. I use this grinder every day and I couldn’t be happier. Four months in and this rocks like a champ. No complaints whatsoever!

    Amazing Hand Grinder

It’s early, but I LOVE this grinder. I had previously purchased another grinder at about half the price of this grinder. I thought that other grinder was fine. Until I used this one!3-5 minutes (or more) of grinding now takes around 15 seconds to a minute, depending on the coarseness. What I really lacked in the other grinder, and what this one provides is a numbered dial to select coarseness, as well as instructions on how to select for different brew types.I ended up giving the other grinder to a friend, but told him he really needs to buy this grinder instead.

    This is a MUST HAVE

I’ve been living for the past 2 years in a small RV with no electricity. My Coffee is VERY important to me. lol During my travels I visited The Gallery Coffee Shop in Munising Michigan, and the owner sold me on the superior flavor associated with Pour Over Coffee. I haven’t looked back. But part of the key is to use FRESH ground coffee for that full, delightful flavor, along with perfectly roasted beans. Yes, I’m that picky.I’ve used electric coffee grinders, but its difficult to measure the exact amount of beans necessary for a single serving, not to mention that during these extreme weather events, electrical grids are being maxed well beyond their capability. After reading multiple reviews, I finally settled on this hand grinder and I must say, its a golden ticket item. I will NEVER go back to anything else. This Burr is made extremely well. Its heavy duty. You can adjust the size of the grind from extremely fine to coarse, depending on your taste or even method of coffee prep. The grinding is easy. But best of all, there is a perfectly measured space for your beans to make the most perfect cup of coffee ever. Want it stronger or weaker, adjust the size of the grind. No more waste, no more guessing. If you are a coffee lover, or you need a gift for a coffee lover, This is a MUST HAVE!!! It is worth EVERY penny.I highly recommend that you also purchase a stainless steel goose neck kettle to target your pour. For the best flavor, you want to wet the grounds and let them effervesce for a moment to release the flavor before fully saturating them with the entire water quantity you will be using for your coffee.Go Forth and have the BEST coffee you will EVER make, EVERY SINGLE DAY> YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS PURCHASE!

Coffee actually tastes way better with this

Coffee used to taste like coffee. Now it (even decaf) tastes like the NOTES in coffee. And it’s quieter.

  53. Diesel Trey Serrano

    Almost perfect but…

It’s built sturdy and of good quality, the only gripe I had was the adjustability of the grind, I have to feel the grind to determine my liking every time I change the coarseness of the grind. I expect ‘em to be a Set and Forget by pointing it to the numbers of the grind select knob.

  54. Kay T

It’s good quality but a little inconsistent when it comes to the grinding size.

Pros:This can be used for espresso to french pressSolid and fast (Pour over french press)Easy adjustmentHigh quality cleaning brushConsThe wood makes a squeaking sound while grindingToo slow for espresso grinding. I woudn’t recommend this grinder only for espressoGrind consistency seems inconsistent when it gets coarser. Conclusion: It’s a solid grinder with a wide range of adjustments. It takes too much effort and time for the espresso grind, but it does work. I would recomment it if you want to use it for pour-over.

  55. John R.

Perfect if You Aren’t A Perfectionist

This grinder is definitely of high quality. It has a nice solid weight to it, the grind on it is smooth and even throughout. This is a perfect grinder for me because I can totally work around what some might view as problems. First make sure to read the directions on how to adjust grind size. The numbers on the dial are not settings but simply indicators of how far you have turned the dial. For example you can be on 12 and it can be two different grind sizes depending on how many times you have spun the dial around. So to get a consistent grind turn the dial completely shut, clockwise as far as it goes, then count each number you pass and that will be the number to tell you your grind size. So if the dial is closed on 12, then you turn it counterclockwise past 11, 10 and 9 your grind number is 3 not 9. Pretty simple but some people may not like that. The other potential con is the handle, it doesn’t not collapse and it must be on to adjust grind size.None of those are issues for me, I love this product and I am thoroughly looking forward to getting a more consistent grind than my ceramic burr grinder gave me.

  56. A customer

    Good quality

The product looks and feels good quality. I bought a second one right after using the first one a couple of times.I saw some reviews regarding confusion on adjusting the grinding level. The instruction does look a bit confusing, but actual adjustment action is simple. The number of digits for coarseness in the instruction starts from the position when the dial is fully closed, i.e. turn the dial clockwise until it cannot move anymore. E.g. if you need 15 digits for coarseness, turn the dial clockwise until it fully closes, then turn 15 clicks anti-clockwise.

  57. Kelly Cline

    Beautiful and well made

Well made. Solid. Mechanics are solid and not rickety. All metal grinding not plastic and you can dial in your grind. Great product and beautiful.

  58. Stanley Fofano

    Awesome grinder

I am very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it. I used to have one of those Javapresse grinders with ceramic burr and the thing only lasted me about 2 months. This grinder on the other hand has stainless steel burr and it’s definitely an improvement. Grinding takes a shorter time and it’s easy to adjust the fineness of the grind. Overall the product feels very high quality. Thank you.

    I love this grinder!

I bought this for when we go camping it weighs 1 pound 2 ounces maybe not for the thru-hiker but if you are willing to pack it into the backcountry along with beans you will not be unhappy. Fresh ground coffee in the woods is worth the weight and the more coffee you drink the less your weight will be 🙂

    Great for two cups

West Coast Chef has a burr grinder that reminds me of the old Turkish grinders of decades ago. The build quality is about the same except that the materials are modern. The grind is nicely adjustable for my intended cup, usually French press but sometimes espresso. My other burr grinders handle a full pot, but this one makes two cups with an easy action.

    Excellent Hand Grinder

Very well machined grinder. (It’s not light, just over a pound total weight.)I especially like the free-spinning bearings, and how easy it is to tear down the grinder for cleaning.I can grind 15 grams of coffee in just over a minute, without waking the dead with my electric grinder. The grind is indistinguishable from my OXO electric grinder. Now instead of pre-grinding coffee for travel I will pack my whole beans and this grinder.

I was on the hunt for something far superior to my rhino but didn’t want to break the bank well I’m glad I purchased this.Build quality is amazing.Wouldnt hesitate to say just pick one up

This is a great single cup grinder.

I create my favorite cup with 3 table spoons of Tanzanian pea berry, ground to perfection with the west coast manual burr grinder and poured over with 16oz of water at 205 degrees. Best way too start my day.

I have had this for a few months now. It is still in excellent working condition. All of the parts are very solid and the adjustment works well.

    Quality!

I have used this grinder daily for about three weeks…and love it. I use an Aeropress with espresso beans ground “fine” and my coffee is amazingly good. The grinds are really perfect. I use a 4 cup French Press when I have guests and it’s so easy to change the grind size with the metal dial. The dial goes from 1 to 10, fine to coarse and locks into place. Easy to load, easy to hand crank, easy to clean. No plugs or electricity required. Made of heavy metal, it balances well while I crank. I have a small kitchen so I really appreciate the small footprint. I know this costs a bit more than other products, but the quality and efficiency are truly worth it. Oh, and the packaging is beautiful if you are looking for a coffee lover’s gift…Can you tell I highly recommend?

    Good quality, performance and price

We use it daily making several cups of coffee. The grind is even and consistent. It pairs well with our AeroPress.

Best hand crank coffee grinder I’ve used!

Feels good in your hands, crank is smooth and burrs are sharp. doesn’t take a lot of effort to grind the beans which is great! It’s a little heavy for backpacking but if you want to bring a grinder with you on the go, there isn’t a better one I’ve seen.

The Only Way to Grind Coffee

I am using this for coffee but it clearly can be used for spices. This feels and looks well made. The finish is smooth and the threads screw together nicely. The cherry handle is beautiful and fits in my palm for an easy grind. The ability to go from very course to an almost powder makes finding the perfect grind assured. The handle takes a bit of getting used to since it does not attach to the top per se but it really is not an issue once used a few times. It came in a nice presentation box that could make it a nice gift too.

    Finally, Coffee That is Coffee!

I like Ike’s at so many products and I thank everyone for leaving a review for this product. They were correct! You know how good that smell of coffee is as you go down that coffee isle. But get disappointed because it doesn’t taste as good as it smells. Every single person who said this was easy to grind and it didn’t disappoint. It is but maybe while grinding, you can meditate, disassociate, day dream, plan your day, makes excuses, “hey I’m grinding the coffee. Im not doing nothing”, damn I’m going to be late for work. For people like myself, don’t do this in the morning. I think I counted 140 turns, maybe more. Going from electric to this the first few times. And do get up 10 minutes early. Im sure you can do it faster but like I said the motion is calming but if you’re sleepy, it can be hypnotic. So i grind when I need an excuse to just take a break. The coffee is nothing short of amazing. So much more flavour! And in one of the crappist espresso machines made the coffee is a look forward moment, to what maybe a day with crap thrown at you. You can get up and look forward the the coffee this little wonder grinds. The grounds aren’t perfect, so I would grind finer than you are used to. But because of the taste I can forgive that bit of imperfection.Highly recommend this product and I was getting kind of p!ssed off from the stuff from Amazon.5*’s.

I’ll never go back to an electric grinder!

I am remarkably surprised by the quality of the grinder. You can adjust how you want the coffee to be: very fine. It is not very complicated to handle. It just took me 30 minutes to learn how to use it. And it’s very portable. The packet contains a brush for cleaning. It seems a bit pricy. But, it works so it’s worth it!

Wasn’t sure about getting this Grinder for doing Espresso

The grinder is well packaged. Foam enclosure.Metal structure, handle and lid is metal. Interior looks like its all metal.I rotated the dial down to 0 then positioned it around 4-5 for my 1st. grind. I’ll need to work on fine tuning which works the best for the dark roast I have. Was able to grind 15grams in about 2 min. or so. Easy to do, took my time turning it, since it sounds nice going in with a slow. med. turning motion. It did have static on the 1st. grind. I misted the beans on the 2nd grind. Just a light mist. No static. I like that you can go in smaller setting options to dial in. Coffee tasting process…. The handle rotates freely when you have all of the bean ground. Bearing set up is sweet.

    Very High quality grinder

The quality for the price is outstanding. The aluminum machining and finish are impeccable and the bearings supporting the grinder handle are surprisingly solid. This is my first manual burr coffee grinder so I don’t have too much to compare it to, but I do own a Breville espresso machine with a burr grinder. The quality of the grind is just as good as the grind on the Breville.Cranking is easy. I use this for pour over, so it’s a coarser grind than what I use for espresso. It just takes a minute to grind two batches of coffee for my pour over. It’s almost cathartic to grind the beans since I am waiting for my kettle to heat up anyways. The adjustment knob under the grinding head seems a little finicky. When you try and adjust to a finer level i think the screw comes loose. I might try adding some loc-tite to the adjusting screw if that keeps happening.Overall I am super impressed with this little grinder!

    Well-made, extremely easy to use

Overall: Sturdy construction, effortless grind, only issues from the first use are nitpicksPackaging and unboxing: The grinder comes in an understated sleeved box. Slide the sleeve off, then lift the lid of the box from the side. The grinder handle and two-piece canister are secured and protected in plenty of foam. A brief manual and cleaning brush sit on top. Removing the components from the box and the foam was easy.Materials and build quality: The canister is nearly all metal; the wooden handle is the only non-metal part I could find. The exterior is generally smooth. The upper half of the canister has a slight texture near the base for extra grip. The crank fits on top, connecting with a hex socket (no tools needed, just a slight twist) and serving as a lid for the upper half. The canister halves are connected with metal threading, like a jar and a lid. The threading here is minimal enough for ease of use, but it’s all metal, integrated into the interior of the halves. I didn’t find any obvious points of failure; e.g. the crank has a relatively thin rod but shouldn’t bend under normal use, none of the components seem brittle, etc.Operation: First, pour the materials to grind into the upper canister, then set the crank on top. The coarseness of the grind can be set through a knob on the inside bottom of the upper canister. Hold the crank in place as you turn the knob, or it’ll spin forever without changing the setting. Provided you want the same level of coarseness every time, this shouldn’t need to be repeated between uses. Connect the upper and lower halves of the canister with a quick turn. Grip the canister in one hand, then grip the crank handle with the other hand and turn until fully ground. Grinding is effortless, certainly easier than other manual grinders I’ve used. Once fully ground, unscrew the lower half, then pour the grounds into your coffee maker’s basket (or on tiramisu layers, etc.). Use the included brush to clean as needed.Issues: After a trial use, I only have two complaints. They’re both minor and easily addressed.1) The crank is adequately secured if the upper canister is upright. Inverting the canister (e.g. to set the coarseness of the grind) without holding the crank lid will allow the crank to fall off. This might cause a mess if there are coffee beans inside. It’s easy enough to hold the lid; you just have to remember to do it. Future iterations of this product might be improved with a latch or other additional means of securing the lid.2) When grinding, the crank and the wooden handle make a squeaking sound. This is easily remedied with any appropriate lubricant, such as WD-40. This should be safe, as the handle is far enough from the canister interior to prevent contamination.

    Great Coffee Grinder

I’m so happy with this little guy! We’ve had bad luck with previous manual grinders, but this one is sturdy so I’m hoping it will last. The last two we had took forever to grind, but this one is really quick. It’s easy to adjust the grind. Highly recommended.

  99. DanielDaniel

Precision and consistency in coffee ground sizes.

It’s time to retire my old hario, but I wasn’t looking to spend $80+ on another grinder. My friend recommended checking this one out.So my use is mainly for single-serve paper filter pour-overs. While adjustability is nice, I value grind consistency the most for this use. Any coffee snob will tell you that grind uniformity affects extraction/taste consistency in the final brew.So I was a bit hesitant with the unit because I first saw that the burrs were steel and not ceramic. But given that I’m not grinding at high speeds or grinding large quantities I figured it shouldn’t matter much. I took the plunge anyway.Out of the packaging, the box is nice. Someone spent a lot of time making sure everything looked good. They include a little brush which is actually a really nice touch. Something that I often overlook, but it’s important to not leave stray coffee bits in the grinder less they go sour and stale adding adverse flavoring to your future brews. The construction is sleek and solid metal. The wooden handle knob is a nice tough to the overall look. The length of the handle arm is a bit longer than say a porlex mini, but it offers a bit more leverage meaning less effort exerted when grinding even the hardest of peaberry beans. The instructions could be improved especially with the grind size adjustment part, but fortunately for me 1) I’ve used A LOT of manual grinders before, and 2) I’m only looking for 1 particular size. and I’ll keep it there. But during the initial adjustment period, I was able to check the grind size range. By accident tried the finest setting (for espresso) and was very impressed with the fine dust-like size the grinder was able to output at an excellent consistency. My $100+ hand-ground precision is the only manual grinder that I own that can still do that.I’d also add some more detailed cleaning instructions, but otherwise it’s solid, good-looking product that not only has the look, but also functions well.

    Stunning for the money

This is my first and only coffee grinder, I’ve recently gotten more and more into the hobby and lifestyle.Bought this due to the price and the appearance, plus the good specs.Just used it for the first time, and I’ve thoroughly taken it apart to inspect everything and I’ve got to say, it’s a right weapon of a thing for this price. Full metal construction, feels stunning to hold and use with a good weight to it. Easy to disassemble to clean as well. Holds about 20-25g of coffee beans comfortably and grinds VERY smoothly when using.Adjustment between grind settings is super simple, I grind for a Moka pot and a French press, and the incrementals between the finer settings are perfect for my Moka pot. First coffee I made was deep in flavour, super rich and chocolatey, minimum bitter and sourness (also down to the beans I’m using) and it felt so nice to finally be able to grind my own coffee.I know nothing at all when it comes to the ins and our of ceramic Vs metal burrs, these ones are metal and are a dream to grind with, super sharp, didn’t get stuck once and SO easy to clean. The unit comes with a nice brush to help get coffee oils out of the small area within the grinder, and it also all arrived in a lovely little box, protected by good quality foam.I’m sure as my coffee journey continues I’ll invest In more equipment, but as for now, Im loving this! And it’ll be something that in 10 years time I’ll have and be able to say “thats my first coffee grinder”. If you’re serious about getting into it a bit more, this is a perfect product to start with for sure! 11/10 from me.

Not as good as it should be

This had the potential to be a five-star product. This company went with style over functionality. The packaging is suitable for gift giving and the product looks fancy. The real wood handle knob makes it stand out.Problem 1: The wood handle squeaked with every rotation during my first use. I am not sure if this clears up over time, since it was annoying enough that I fixed it right away. I put a drop of MCT oil down the hole, let it soak in, and spun it around, and the squeak was fixed. It is an easy fix, but the consumer, or gift receiver, should not have to do that. I used MCT oil because I had that next to my coffee and it is food safe. I am not saying that is the best oil to use.Problem 2: The instructions say not to wash this with water. What is that about? Seems like a strange and unnecessary restriction. I wash my other grinders.Problem 3: The black color is a bad idea. Most other grinders are clear, white, or steel for a practical reason. You can see the coffee grounds in the chamber and how many are stuck to the sides. With an all-black container, you cannot see the grounds inside without good overhead lighting or a flashlight. If they want an all-black exterior, they should still line the inside of the canister with a white or silver coating so you can see the grounds. Offer a clear window so you can see how many grounds are in the chamber while grinding. If you are grinding for multiple cups, how do you know when to stop if you cannot see inside the chamber? My family members use that feature in other grinders, where they stop when the level of grounds reaches a certain height.Problem 4: The grind coarseness adjustment is complex and poorly explained in the manual. For example, the instructions say to move the dial to 28 for French Press, but the dial only goes up to 12, so what am I missing? The dial can spin around multiple times, so maybe it is referring to multiple complete rotations? It isn’t clear. I spun it around multiple times and the dial popped off and a spring came out. When I reattached the dial the grounds wouldn’t enter the chamber and would remain stuck in the top part. It was rather frustrating having to kill an hour troubleshooting a grinder. The center grip spins too. Does spinning the center grip do anything? This is just poor design overall.Positives:1. It is quiet when grinding relative to my cheaper grinders.2. The wood handle is easy to grip3. The grinding speed is faster than my cheaper grinders.4. It comes with a brush, which I appreciate. I had been using an electric shaver brush to clean my other grinders.Negatives:-It does not store compactly as the cheaper grinders because of the handle. It is not suitable for travel.Even with the negatives I find myself using this grinder over my other two cheaper grinders because it grinds faster, it is quieter, the wood handle is comfortable, and it does not suffer from the problem my other grinders have where the handle slips off while grinding.

  105. Greg

    Solid and works excellent!

This is my first conical burr grinder so I might be a little biased. This was the lowest priced grinder in this category so I was a little weary. This grinder is very easy to use after watching on or two tutorials on how to use this style grinder. It’s components feel of high quality when it’s disassembled and it has a weighty feel in the hand. When grinding there is not much resistance at all and the burrs feel very sharp for effortless grinding. The handle is sturdy and feels pretty secure when grinding. The grind receptical is the perfect size for my french press and screws on very securely to the grinder and is easily removed. All in all I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

High quality with a precision dial

The dial first and foremost got me ordering it. When it arrives The quality is great. It grinds the coffee I want on the dial I want. If you’re unsure on which number to put. Go online and see which one which. Otherwise I’m surprised it is good.

    Outstanding Quality Coffee Grinder

This isn’t my first or even my third hand-held grinder, so I have a good idea of what I like and don’t like about grinders, and what quality means to me. It is obvious to me that this grinder was well designed, well manufactured, and well assembled. All the materials used in its construction are high quality and as a result, everything works smoothly, and it does what it was designed to do and what I want it to do – uniformly grind coffee beans to my desired coarseness without a lot of noise and effort. One big issue for me was that it had a solid stainless-steel burr, because I am done with ceramic burrs. Low-quality ceramic wears quickly and breaks, stainless-steel takes the abuse and keeps going because it is a lot tougher than coffee beans. Everything about this grinder is tough and yet it looks so elegant.Another design feature I appreciate about this grinder is that the grind coarseness dial has numbered settings, my other grinders didn’t have that, so it was difficult to switch between the grinds I use for different coffee making processes. This coffee grinder is great, and I highly recommend it.

Me encantó este molino, si bien el precio no es bajo, considero que la relación costo-beneficio se cumple sin problemas. La presentación es muy bonita, el molino muy elegante, y te permite de manera fácil moler tu café y obtener muy ricos sabores!!! Excelente producto

    Lots of static

Easy to use grinder with decent results. Grinds can be a bit clumpy and the action of grinding itself creates a lot of static. Because of this it can get a bit messy. They do provide a brush to clean the grinder and I have kept the case. I would have paid a bit more if the case was made from a more durable material. Overall tho, makes a decent coffee, it’s easy to use and making coffee is messy anyway. Great value I would buy again. Very comparable to more expensive hand grinders

    Good product, hard to clean

I like this grinder and it really works as expected. The only down side is that I’m not able to clean it and the instruction said dont clean it with water which is so inconvinient.

This thing rocks! The best coffee I’ve ever made. I was using Black Rifle Coffee whole beans but this tasted better than the ground Coffee of the same blend. I don’t think I can go back to ground Coffee now.

    Love this grinder

This is a great coffee grinder I use this everyday for about a month now and it still going strong the burr mechanics are great and it can hold enough to grind enough beans for a double shot. Only issue I have is that the adjustment numbers don’t mean anything please read the instructions on how to dial in the grind courseness.

Sturdy, easy to grind, excellent results

The packaging on this is solid and useful (though the brush seemed a packaging afterthought). As I’m an occasional coffee maker, I’ll be keeping this in the packaging between uses for storage. The instructions are concise and clear. The unit itself is hefty in weight and doesn’t appear to any plastic only metal and a wooden knob. The top crank rests easily into the main body of the grinder is satisfyingly enjoyable to crank. Once done the bottom of the grind unscrews to dump out the grounds. The included brush is useful to clean the grinder of leftover grounds.I’d highly recommend, especially for a gift as the packaging is upper end.

  114. Rami Hurtubise

Strong build, high quality, great grind quality

Like the headline says, the quality of the product I feel is high, especially when compared to my last grinder which was a cheaper stainless steel manual grinder. The grind itself was fast, easy, and provided an even grind for my french press. Like the other reviews mention, the mechanism by which you choose the grind size is a bit confusing. I had to re-read the instructions a couple times before I understood it, but it’s really not that difficult to figure out. Some of the other reviews exaggerate the difficulty. My ONLY complaint is that the chamber was a bit smaller than I would have liked. It holds only about 3 full tablespoons of beans. So for about 4 cups of water (for 3-4 people), I had to do two rounds of grinding to get enough. But really not a big deal since grinding was super quick.

  115. SlaytonH

Well built and does the job

Pretty good grinder. This is my first manual coffee grinder but I think I’m going to let go of electric grinding from now on. It’s easy to do and, despite popular opinion, doesn’t actually take very long. The grinder itself feels heavy and very well built, like it should last a long time. It’s a great size for storing or traveling.

  116. Kenneth Hensley

    Disappointed

ground size adjusting knob comes off in the ground coffee cup. Got in touch with seller – no help. Not good for coarse ground.

  117. C. Chaster

    Simply Great

Very impressed so far with this grinder. I can’t confirm if it has two bearings on the shaft for sure or not but it does look like it. Others of similar price point often only use one bearing and one bushing, usually have to be north of $100 to get two bearings. Everything appears to be very well constructed and very robust plus the wooden knob is actually wood unlike another that looked almost identical but had a wood look Plastic Knob. Came is a far to nice box for the price and also came with a pretty good cleaning brush. Easy enough to adjust, grounds cup easily holds about 4 tbsp’s of grounds which is perfect for 2 solid 12oz cups (or 3 regular 8oz cups) which suites me perfect. Quality of $100 burr grinder for much less. Super pleased, Simply Great 🙂

I am very pleased with this grinder! The stainless burr is nicely machined; maybe a few minor imperfections but certainly nothing that would affect the consistency of the grind. The adjustment marks make setting it back to the correct level of fineness quite easy and even the packaging is very nice. The grind seems to be fairly consistent and smooth thanks in part to the two shaft bearings this grinder utilizes. If I had to nitpick one thing about this grinder it would be that there is a slight amount of play between the burr and the shaft. This can sometimes allow the burr to “wedge” onto the shaft making disassembly slightly more difficult, but is by no means a deal breaker.

    My new best friend.

I absolutely LOVE this grinder. I use it almost everyday. There is nothing quite like the taste of freshly ground beans. This is the only grinder I’ve ever had so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it seems to be very well made. It’s heavy duty and just plain heavy. It’s so easy to grind even my little kiddos like to get into the action. It’s easy to adjust between the heavy and fine grinds. It’s sleek and I love the wooden accent on the handle. The included brush is so handy to clean out those rouge bits. It’s the perfect size, you could even travel with this guy if you wanted.Would definitely recommend for the coffee lover.

    Well built with great results

This was my first grinder purchase. I had done my research and wanted something manual (to avoid increasing the electricity bill more), with burrs instead of blades and fine enough to grind for espresso. I didn’t have the budget for some of the premium options so took a look at this one. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, so I made the plunge. The first thing I noticed when unpacking was the weight (nicely heavy) and quality. I followed the included instructions and it was easy to set up the grind size. I initially put it on the ‘7’ setting for our Delonghi Dedica espresso machine and it produced a lovely, consistent, fine grind. I tried setting it to 5 for a finer grind, but this actually blocked the machine, so it will grind finer and you’ll need to tweak to find the best one for your setup.Overall I’m very impressed for the price and highly recommend it.

    Handy Burr Coffee Grinder

The design is good and it is quite compact so easy to store. I did find however setting the grind slightly fiddly otherwise very good burr grinder.

    Excellent quality

The first time I held it after taking it out of it’s very impressive box, I noticed its quality and heft. Machined out of aluminum, yet with a weight that implies a very robust build, this grinder is built to impress. It’s control dial for grind fineness is not very user friendly and its handle could fit a little better on the shaft, but those are nitpicks that one gets used to right away. If the reservoir is filled with beans, it will produce two cups of a fine grind suitable for a pod-style coffee maker. I use it for both that coffee maker and an old fashioned non-electric percolator for camping. The grinding process itself, using steel burrs rather than ceramic, is decent. But even with a longer-than-usual handle, it still takes a bit of muscle to grind that much. But that’s OK since I think of it as a bit of upper-body calisthenics for the morning. All manual grinders are that way. The grinder comes with a very nice horse-hair brush for cleanup, a nice touch. I noticed that after grinding, there are no issues with static electricity making some of the finer bits cling to the grinder, unlike electric grinders I owned in the past. So some brushing is all it takes to clean up. I’m really impressed overall with this product.

    Estoy feliz con este molino

He ensayado otros molinos y la verdad no encontraba uno tan bueno como este. Estoy feliz y ya puedo disfrutar diariamente de un café recien molido.

    Top Quality – Expensive

You get what you pay for. This is not a cheap grinder, but the quality is superb! Great for when power is out or when camping or for cases when you prefer manual tools.

    well made

It is well made and works smoothly, but I have only used it a few times, so I’m not sure about its durability. You can adjust the grind and get the taste you prefer. It is different from the electric grinders. I like the taste of the grind a lot.

For the best flavor, you want to wet the grounds and let them effervesce for a moment to release the flavor before fully saturating them with the entire water quantity you will be using for your coffee.Go Forth and have the BEST coffee you will EVER make, EVERY SINGLE DAY> YOU WILL NOT REGRET THIS PURCHASE!

    makes a beautiful grind
